Frequently asked golf trip questions

Planning a golf holiday can be exciting but overwhelming. Our Q&A section is designed to answer your most pressing questions, providing expert insights and practical advice.

The best place to go on a golf holiday really comes down to what you want from the trip. If you’re chasing good weather and lots of course choices, travellers pick sun destinations such as Portugal and Spain for golf holidays and shorter golf breaks, especially in spring and autumn when courses are busy but not at their peak. If you’d rather keep things closer to home, the UK and Ireland are ideal for quick golf trips with great links golf, a fun clubhouse culture and long weekends. A rule of thumb is to start with must haves (i.e. sun, links, nightlife, spa or a family friendly resort) and choose the destination that matches your style of golf trip.

A tough one to answer as it’s a little subjective, however the “best” season for a golf holiday is usually the shoulder months, when you get great playing conditions without the peak season crowds or prices. In much of Europe, spring and early autumn are the sweet spot for golf holidays and golf breaks, with comfortable temperatures, decent tee time availability and courses in great nick. Summer can still work well if you’re travelling as a group and you book early, but it’s often hotter and busier in the more popular resorts. If you’re planning winter golf trips, warmer destinations are a safer bet, while UK rounds are more weather dependent.

Golf holidays are brilliant for beginners, as long as the trip is planned around enjoyment, not pressure. Many resorts and destinations are set up for mixed ability groups, so you can pick courses that are welcoming, book later tee times and balance playing days with practice sessions or coaching. A shorter golf break works well if you’re new to the game, because you can play a couple of rounds without feeling like golf has to take over the whole holiday. When done well, beginner-friendly golf trips are relaxed, social and a great way to build confidence, plus enjoy this great game.

Booking is simple, browse our golf holiday packages online or speak directly with one of our team. Once you’ve chosen your destination and dates, we’ll confirm availability, arrange tee times and handle payments securely. You’ll then receive full booking details and documentation. Need help tailoring your trip? Our team is always available for personal guidance.

Absolutely, we often organise group trips, society outings, and corporate golf events across the UK and worldwide. Our team can manage everything from accommodation and tee times to merchandise and tournament scoring. From small gatherings to large events, we’ll create a tailored itinerary that meets your group’s needs and budget.

For most golf trips, pack the basics you’d take for a normal round, plus a few extras that make travel easier. Your clubs are the obvious one! Even if they occasionally don’t work : ), but it’s worth bringing an extra glove, plenty of balls and tees, plus a lightweight waterproof, because even warm destinations can surprise you. Comfortable shoes matter more than people think on a multi round golf break, so make sure yours are properly broken in, and throw in blister plasters just in case. If you’re not travelling with clubs, pre-booking club hire can make shorter golf breaks a bit easier, so you can focus on the essentials, namely shoes, glove and any accessories you’re used to.

A typical golf holiday will vary because the price is driven by destination, hotel standard, how many rounds you want and whether you’re travelling in peak season. Shorter golf breaks (a long weekend with a couple of rounds) are usually the most cost-effective way to get away, while longer golf trips with more rounds, transfers and premium courses are more costly. Flights, baggage (especially if you’re taking clubs) and tee-time demand can also increase the total. The easiest way to keep a golf break within budget is to be flexible on dates and consider shoulder season travel, where you often get better value for the same quality.

The best golf holiday destinations also have great non golf experiences, such as beaches, spas, wineries, old towns, restaurants and day trips. Non golfers can also enjoy a break while golfers play. This is why golf breaks work so well for couples and groups, because golfers can play, while non golfers enjoy the resort or explore nearby places. If you’re booking a golf holiday with non-golfers, choosing the right location and hotel facilities makes all the difference.

We understand that things happen, and plans change. Simply contact us as soon as possible, and we’ll guide you through your options. Amendments or cancellations may involve supplier fees, but we’ll always explain these clearly before proceeding. We also recommend travel insurance to protect your booking and provide peace of mind throughout your holiday.

Yes, Golf Travel Centre can create a bespoke golf break based on your preferred destination, travel dates, budget, handicap range and the type of trip you want (relaxed resort golf, bucket list courses, or a mix). We’ll recommend suitable resorts and tee times, suggest room options and help you balance golf with downtime. Share a few preferences and we’ll build an itinerary that fits.

Golf holiday facts

Travel and tourism is growing and over a billion people travel each year

International tourism is still expanding, as are people wanting golf breaks. In a UN Tourism report, it found almost 690 million tourists travelled internationally between January and June 2025, which is 5% higher than the same period in 2024(1)

Golf travel drives economic value in key destinations

An example of this is Portugal, one of Europe’s strongest golf holiday markets. Golf’s economic impact in Portugal was €4.2 billion (2023) and about 1.6% of national GDP. The sector supported over 110,000 jobs and more than €2.2bn in revenue. The Algarve captured 62% of rounds, with British golfers making up  around 46% of this.(2)

Golf participation is soaring

The R&A reports 108 million people are playing golf across all formats in its markets (excluding USA & Mexico), which is an increase of almost 3 million from 2023. More participants leads to more golf trips.(3)
